Light in my Eyes

from Waterside [full album] by Traditional Graffiti

about

Wrote this after losing a lucrative Creative Director role with a big agency. It coincided with really awful bush fires around Sydney. Realised, that I had music, art, and self-belief, and it would all pan out. It did.

lyrics

Light in My Eyes (Ian Macintosh)
[ch]
There’s fire on the mountain no water in the well
The air is fire and brimstone it ‘s a living breathing hell
There’s smoke across the city behind a red sunrise
And I woke up this morning with light in my eyes.

This world is getting hard to take it’s boring me to tears
Everyone is on the make pursuing their careers
Like the unexpected stranger it caught me by surprise
I woke up this morning with light in my eyes…

I left the corporation they finally cut me free
Freed from that situation I‘m doing as I please
Like the blindfold on the injured man that the gentle hand unties
I woke up this morning with light in my eyes.

Every dream that weighed me down I left along the road
But now I’ve turned my life around I’m bringing them back home
I’m bound for where all dreams come true and the foolish man is wise
I woke up this morning with light in my eyes.

I haven’t got no answers they are not mine to give
Don’t talk to me of dying I’m too busy trying to live
Don’t ask me any questions I won’t tell you no lies
I woke up this morning with light in my eyes.

I don’t know where I’m going but I’m glad I’m on my way
I got no work tomorrow but there’s work enough today
I feel liker bold Sir Galahad who glimpsed the final prize
Well I walked out this morning with light in my eyes.
