about

Here's a Corvid-19-rainy-day recitation of Big Joe Turners 'Crawdad Hole' from The Pump. I have played a little with the lyrics by adding some original lines and nicking some lines from other songs. BJT was well known for his 'close to the line' lyrics and I love him for that. The words 'double-entendre' come to mind - I mean, his 'fishing pole' and his 'one-eyed cat'? The 'one-eyed cat ' verse is part lifted from another of Joe's songs . I am playing resonator in open G, and xharp in C for those who care about these things. Hope you like it - more to come. Free of course.

lyrics

Bin a long time
Since I fished at the Crawdad hole (rpt)
Last time I fished there
I broke my line and pole!

I used to catch so many minnows,
Man they sure was nice and sweet (rpt)
When they see my fishin’ pole,
They flip flop at my feet

I’m a one-eyed cat
Sneakin’ through the seafood store (rpt)
If I don’t get me a Crawdad
I ain’t comin’ back no more.

Whatcha gonna do
when th’Crawdad hole runs dry?’ (rpt)
I said ‘I’m gonna sit on the bank,
and hang my head an’ cry.

Bin a long time
Since I fished at the Crawdad hole (rpt)
Last time I fished there
I broke my line and pole!
